Pocket Knives ' They Are Not Just For Protection
We cannot live without having our favorite knife on our person or in the house. Just so has pocket knives taken over from the big old straight blade knife, which used to cause all sorts of problems. Knives will always be an integral part of society and will evolve into something better, faster and more robust than ever.
But if you are looking into buying one for yourself, then first make sure you know what type you want. Are you going to use it purely for recreational purposes, say for camping? Or are you going to use it for work. Whatever your needs are for a knife, make sure you get the correct one, which will serve it's purpose.
Also referred to as pen knives, they are the most used in the world today, meaning they are carried with us in your bags, trouser pockets, jackets and just about everywhere you can think of. Woman love to carry them for protection because they are slim and easy to handle.
Should you require to use your own knife for work purposes, then the utility knives are the best. You do not need to carry a sheath because it becomes bulky to use. The constant unclasping and clasping of the knife will frustrate you in no time. Most popular types come with a folding razor blade and locks for safety purposes.
If you are not too worried about what type you want, then go for the army knife which has a myriad of blades and other paraphernalia like cork screws, nail files and screw drivers, to name but a few. Practicality is the name of the game and once you own one, you won't believe that you actually went through life without one.
Then there are those knives specially adapted for hunting and survival. These have their own sheath for your protection of course and can be worn around the waist, arm or leg, whichever style you feel comfortable with.
Survival knives as of late have become increasingly popular. Besides that, when camping, you can use survival knives for a variety of uses. Who doesn't like carving an animal around the fire, cutting rope and opening things.
Please bear in mind that pocket knives can be used as a weapon and is deemed dangerous. Keep out of reach from inquisitive minds as you will be held liable if someone gets seriously hurt.

This is a really nice knife. It feels great in the hand. Maybe a bit small if you have big hands. It is made of good quality steel and the full tang construction makes it super strong. In fact, I prefer full tang knives, as I have had some cheap knives in the past and after using them for a while, I have been left holding the handle with the blade lying on the ground. Another great thing about full tang knives is that if the handle scales ever break or come off, they can be replaced and the knife is as good as new. This is definately a knife that will last a lifetime. You won't go wrong with this one.

They open easily with one hand -- just place your thumb at the base of the blade and rotate the knife until it's fully extended, which securely engages the locking mechanism. The locking mechanism is marked with a padlock symbol on the tool, and to disengage it, just squeeze it towards the handle until the blade slides past the lock. It's a simple feature, but it's one that guarantees your safety. To open and close the interior blades, just grip the handles and swing them open. Each interior blade can be lifted out by using the nail nicks or the thumb lifts. The Core features both straight and serrated knife blades; the straight blades can be sharpened with standard sharpening methods, so it's easy to maintain. The serrated blades are easy to sharpen too, but make sure you're using a sharpening system designed to accommodate the serrations. Reviews
My pop has had leatherman tools for years, finally picked one up for myself a few months back and I very happy I did. Easy open, the all important locking blades, the saw and serrated blades are amazing! Great to have on you for all those little fixes! between this, duct tape and wd-40 theres nothing you can't fix!
My only gripe is, and this is completely my fault, it is not all metal like I thought it would be. I figured it would be exactly the same as the supertool that my pop has, that is the only reason I gave it 4 stars...why would they put plastic in the joints where the pliers attach? why not make them all with the metal joints for greater strength and durability.
anyway, I'm happy with it, gets the job done.
I love Leatherman tools, I have owned the SUPER TOOL, the WAVE, and now the CORE.
My company bought me the SUPER TOOL and I used it for twelve years, when they bought me the WAVE I gave the SUPER TOOL away to a friend.
Four years later I bought the CORE and gave the WAVE to my son.
I liked the WAVE, but the original SUPER TOOL and the CORE are more alike, and I like them a whole lot better.
If you are going to buy a Multi-Tool, go LEATHERMAN and you won't regret it.
Twenty five year warranty!
I have owned several leathermean multitools over the years, and I have had the privilege of watching their product lines expand and develop. The core will suite the needs of most users quite well with rugged pliers and nice assortment. However this design predominately features the pliers and folds the tools into the inside of the handles. This means that whenever they are accessed the tool must be opened. I personally prefer the Wave-style leatherman products that have blades mounted for use on the outside of the tool. If you are to spend the money on this tool consider the Wave, or the Charge series as I have found them to be a better value. The most used parts of my leatherman tools has always been the blades followed by the pliers. Having to open the tool to access blades requires two hands and takes a lot of time. Consider the purpose and uses of the tool before purchase.
I bought this for my husband as a birthday gift. He had lost his treasured Leatherman Core. I don't know how many times I heard, "if only I could find my Leatherman". So I went on line and found an exact replacement. I scored big time in his eyes. This was a great price, and received it in just a few days.
This little tool is the most versatile and tough tool I have ever had. I paid way too much (not on Amazon-$85 at an AAFES store) for it, but it has more than paid itself off. From working on equipment to opening bottles and letters, the Core has more than proven itself to be my greatest tool. A little tough to open when I first got it, (still kinda is.) but that only adds to how tough it is. when you drop it from the back of a humvee you dont have to worry about it closing or opening. the knife is tough enough to cut through thin aluminum without really dulling the blade, the sawblade long enough to work on tough jobs, and you can close it and use it as a hammer! this is the only tool i wont be replacing after my deployment in afghanistan, because i dont see this tool breaking. RECOMMENDED FOR ANY SOLDIER!
